Residential Board and Care Requirements

As of the June 22, 2018 effective date of Public Act 100-0593, the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) is once again statutorily mandated to conduct inspections of Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) Community-Integrated Living Arrangements (CILA) containing eight (8) or fewer clients.

Per the new language of the Community-Integrated Living Arrangements Licensure and Certification Act (210 ILCS 135), the Office of the State Fire Marshal shall provide the necessary fire inspection to comply with licensing requirements. Per the new statutory language, local fire authorities are no longer authorized to conduct fire inspections to comply with licensing requirements, however, those local authorities with jurisdiction have the right to conduct local code inspection and enforcement activities and conduct fire incident planning activities.

During the time OSFM was not mandated to conduct these inspections, IDHS continued to send requests for inspections to the OSFM. OSFM is using this list of requests to assist with scheduling inspections at this time. OSFM anticipates it may take many months to work through the backlog of requests. We appreciate your patience while we work to address this issue.
