This important document provides a comprehensive look at statewide risks, trends, and challenges, while helping guide local fire departments and agencies in developing data-driven Community Risk Assessments and prevention strategies. The assessment will serve as a valuable roadmap as Illinois continues working toward safer, stronger, and more resilient communities.
Best Practices for Addressing Homelessness and Migrant Issues

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), reports around 64% of U.S. households own at least one outdoor BBQ, grill or smoker. July was the peak month for grill fires, followed by June, May and August. Gas grills were involved in an average of 9,287 home fires per year, including 4,682 structure fires and 4,605 outdoor fires annually.

CRR Week (January 19-25, 2026) is a grassroots effort led by an informal group of fire safety professionals from across the nation. The goal of the week is to promote awareness of Community Risk Reduction (CRR) within the fire service by encouraging agencies to conduct CRR programs and demonstrate the value and impact of these efforts.
