FY 27 Small Equipment Grant

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for the FY2027 Small Equipment Grant Program.  This year, applicants will be eligible for up to $50,000 for the purchase of small firefighting and ambulance equipment.

Pre-Registration Requirements

Applicants MUST have a SAM.gov registration and a registration with the state GATA portal.   Failure to pre-register with SAM.gov and at the GATA portal will make you ineligible to receive a grant.

When registering at SAM.gov you should ensure that you are doing the FULL registration.  If you already have a registration, you can check your status on the SAM.gov website.  All questions regarding SAM.gov should be addressed to the federal helpdesk.  Instructions on how to register can be found on the website.

NFIRS and NERIS

Applicants should note than in addition to the registration requirements, applicants must be compliant with their NFIRS and NERIS reporting for the two-year period beginning October 2024 and ending September 2026.  Compliance status for departments required to submit NFIRS and NERIS reports will be published every two weeks.  You can find the links to these reports at https://sfm.illinois.gov/iam/firedepartment/grants-and-loans.htmlIf  and click on NFIRS or NERIS on the side of your screen.  If you do not meet the compliance requirements you will be ineligible to receive a grant.

Funding Priorities

Priority will be given to funding Tier I equipment.  Equipment that is not included in Tier I will not be considered until all Tier I items have been funded.
